Finding the Ultimate Cheese Toastie

Finding the Ultimate Cheese Toastie

The Barbers are big fans of a toasted sandwich and are asking cheese lovers to take on the challenge of findings the world’s best cheese toastie!

The Barbers have perfected their own recipe and at the 2014 Royal Bath & West Show, are inviting cheese lovers and foodies to create their ultimate toastie for visitors at the show to vote for. The winner will be crowned the Ultimate Toastie Recipe and rewarded with a trip to Maryland Farm to see our 1833 Cheddar being made, given a hamper of tasty Barbers cheese and butter and then finish off the day with a night in a local boutique hotel.

The Royal Bath and West show is known and respected the world over and we are lucky enough to have it on our doorstep – just down the road from our farm in Ditcheat, Somerset. The Royal Bath Society began in a small room in Bath in 1777 and a few years later was expanded to include the whole of ‘The West’ in its remit, not just Bath, to encompass all of Somerset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Dorset – the very same counties that produce West Country Farmhouse Cheddar today.

True to the aims of those original gentlemen of the Bath & West Society, our hunt for the ultimate toastie reveals the ‘improvements not yet known’ in this British favourite using our award winning 1833 Vintage Reserve Cheddar. In our opinion it has the perfect flavour, texture and, most importantly, unctuous molten melt, critical to the finest of toasted sandwiches.

Come and join us on our stand at the show to taste our cheese and to help us in our quest. We’ll be aiming to create the Ultimate Cheese Toastie with the assistance of food bloggers, dairy farmers, cheese makers and lots of other cheese lovers, just like you.

Barber’s stand will be at the entrance to the Cheese Pavilion
The Royal Bath & West Show, Shepton Mallet, Somerset runs from 28th-31st May 2014.
